Cultured Food

Cultured food is food grown in a lab rather than from traditional farming. For example, meat can be made from animal cells without needing to raise and slaughter animals, offering a more sustainable way to produce food.

Examples:

  • Aleph Farms: Aleph Farms is an Israeli startup that is working on producing cultured beef steaks using 3D bioprinting technology and tissue engineering methods to replicate the taste, texture, and nutritional profile of conventional meat.
  • Remilk: Remilk is a trailblazing company in the field of cultured dairy products, specializing in lab-grown milk. Utilizing cellular agriculture techniques, Remilk cultivates animal cells to replicate dairy proteins found in traditional milk. Their approach addresses sustainability and animal welfare concerns associated with conventional dairy farming.
  • BlueNalu – BlueNalu is pioneering the development of cell-based seafood by growing fish cells directly, offering a sustainable alternative to wild-caught and farmed seafood. Their mission is to address overfishing and the environmental impact of traditional seafood production while providing consumers with fresh, healthy, and cruelty-free options.
